DeepSeek, a Chinese startup, has developed an AI chatbot that rivals ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini. The chatbot offers similar performance to ChatGPT but at a lower cost. DeepSeek is open-sourced, allowing anyone to review and contribute to its code.
Jevons paradox strikes again! As AI gets more efficient and accessible, we will see its use skyrocket, turning it into a commodity we just can't get enough of. https://t.co/omEcOPhdIz

Currently, DeepSeek does not offer a paid subscription like ChatGPT. It also lacks some features, such as the ability to generate images or analyze photos. However, this has not hindered its growing user base, who are eager to explore its capabilities on various devices.
deepseek's r1 is an impressive model, particularly around what they're able to deliver for the price.
we will obviously deliver much better models and also it's legit invigorating to have a new competitor! we will pull up some releases.

I don’t fully understand why the market is (maybe?) reacting to DeepSeek the way it is, but, if the thesis is that AI development & applications is plummeting in cost, the real impacts are outside of the AI/chip firms.
Which organizations can use this form of intelligence best?

To use DeepSeek on a smartphone or tablet, users can download the app from the App Store or Play Store.
DeepSeek launches competitive AI chatbot
Alternatively, they can access the chatbot by visiting ‘chat.deepseek.com’ using a web browser.
Users need to create an account through their Google account to start using DeepSeek. Once signed in, they will see a user interface similar to ChatGPT’s, with a text box at the bottom for interacting with the chatbot. To access past conversations, users can tap the two horizontal lines at the top left.
Advanced features, such as the DeepThink R1 model or internet searches, can be enabled by clicking on the DeepThink (R1) and Search buttons beneath the text box. Users can extract text from images or analyze documents using the ‘+’ button next to the text box. To start a new conversation, the button on the top right initiates a fresh chat.
Although DeepSeek’s functionalities are currently basic, the company is expected to introduce more features in the future.
